Minister of Economy of Armenia Tigran Khachatryan today received the delegation led by Minister of Agriculture of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Ashot Bakhshiyan.

A broad range of agricultural programs being implemented in Armenia and Artsakh were on the agenda.

Greeting the guests, Minister Khachatryan stated that one of the major goals of the meeting is to discuss the agricultural programs under implantation and present the objective agreements that must underlie the future harmonious actions by the end of this year.

The parties underscored the importance of ensuring food safety through combined efforts, cooperation and the application of the toolkit for government support in Armenia and Artsakh. In this regard, Khachatryan stated that all actions need to be aimed at providing the people of Artsakh and Armenia with a sufficient amount of local and quality food and added that he believes the developed methods serve that goal.

The minister of agriculture of Artsakh briefly presented the agrarian programs being implemented in Artsakh and the upcoming initiatives and particularly informed that the program for wheat production has already been launched, taking into consideration Artsakh’s agricultural resources and the peculiarities of cultivation of wheat. The minister added that the Ministry of Agriculture is also focused on slaughterhouses. Armenia’s economy minister clarified issues regarding the mapping of slaughterhouse and the mechanisms for government support for the establishment of new slaughterhouses.

They also discussed issues related to the engagement of new investments in the agriculture sector, the development of infrastructures and the implementation of a more effective policy in the processing sector.
