YEREVAN. – Friday’s demonstration by the residents of Taperakan village of Ararat Province in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia has ended. As reported earlier, they demand the release of their fellow villager Alen Petrosyan from custody.

According to his lawyer Arman Arzumanyan, Petrosyan is charged with murder and carrying an illegal weapon, but later the actual perpetrator, the actual shooter, voluntarily turned himself over to the body conducting the proceedings, confessed, and even handed the murder weapon.

But the young man who has confessed to this murder is still in freedom, whereas Alen Petrosyan’s term of arrest has already been extended twice.

His lawyer was received today by Deputy Prosecutor General Armen Afandyan. After the meeting, the attorney told journalists: "He [Afandyan] promised that the issue will be resolved in the coming days, there will be some specificity in the proceedings of the case."

"After all, a man has died. We have discussed the issue of deprivation of liberty, which is at least pointless at the moment. Let the charge be maintained; it will be denied or confirmed later.

It is also pointless to continue the protest at this moment. I believe yes, we are stopping the protest, we are waiting. We trust the Prosecutor General's Office, we do not trust the provincial prosecutor's office," Arman Arzumanyan emphasized.
