Armenia’s Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan today had a meeting with representatives of several poultry companies to discuss the current problems and opportunities for solutions, as well as the prospects for development of poultry farming, as reported the Department of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Economy.

At the outset, the minister informed that Armenia will increase the customs duty for poultry meat imports starting from 2022 and that this should be viewed as an opportunity for development of poultry farming. He urged to find effective ways to increase volumes of production of local bird meat and chicken meat and boost exports.

Highlighting the importance of resisting the current challenges, enhancing the field and taking steps to make the sector competitive, Kerobyan informed that the government is already taking certain actions in this direction.

President of the Union of Poultry Farmers of Armenia Sergey Stepanyan briefly presented the current state of affairs in poultry farming and mentioned that the most successful year for poultry production was the year 2019.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed issues related to ensuring of high quality of local bird meat and chicken meat in internal and external markets and increase of competitiveness, the expansion of markets for sale, the legislative regulation of the egg market, etc.
