Armenia’s Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan reported the following on her Facebook page:
“I have stated several times that the Ministry of Justice and its partnering organizations have taken complex measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and guarantee the right of prisoners to healthcare. To respond to the cases of spread of COVID-19, the “Hospital of Convicts” Penitentiary Institution has been set aside as a quarantine zone, at least 1 cell has been set aside for each prisoner at penitentiary institutions for isolation of prisoners with symptoms of COVID-19, awareness-raising actions have been carried out, several sanitary-epidemic measures have been taken, and most importantly, no death has been recorded on the basis of COVID-19.
Taking into account the results that have been recorded, the Ministry of Justice will allow short and long visits for prisoners. If visits are allowed, we will conduct monitoring to always assess the consequences of the initiative.”
