Armenia’s Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan today had a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Shombi Sharp.

Sharp congratulated the minister on assuming office and stated that the 2021-25 United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) being considered with the Government of Armenia serves as a good opportunity to review and bring a new sweep to the cooperation. “On behalf of the UN Office in Armenia, I would like to state that we highly appreciate our large-scale cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and are currently expanding our joint efforts to recover better from the latest challenges. We will soon launch the new five-year UN Partnership Framework, and green, sustainable and inclusive economic growth for Armenia underlies the Framework,” Shombi Sharp said, adding that the cooperation can also continue in the areas of development of small and medium-sized enterprises, promotion of investments, etc.

Welcoming the joint projects in Armenia, Kerobyan stated that the meeting serves as a good opportunity to outline and specify the areas for future cooperation. Kerobyan also informed Sharp about the development of a knowledge-based economic policy of the Ministry of Economy and the initiative to create non-rural jobs in rural areas.

During the conversation, the parties touched upon the implementation of programs for development of water infrastructures, and Sharp stated the need for training of workers in rural communities, including programs for women.
