YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily of Armenia writes: Intense work is also expected in the Constitutional Court [(CC)] in the coming months; the thing is that there are discussions and sessions on several issues that are of public interest.

First, on February 17, the Constitutional Court will orally consider the petition of the [parliamentary] opposition factions, by which the latter challenge the constitutionality of the constitutional amendments made in June of the year [past]. As a result of them, Hrayr Tovmasyan was relieved of the post of CC President, and the powers of [CC] Judges Alvina Gyulumyan, Hrant Nazaryan, and Felix Tokhyan were terminated prematurely, and they were sent to retirement.

Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan’s petition on the Judicial Code will be discussed on March 16.

And on April 13, the Constitutional Court will consider the petition of 1/5 of the MPs, by which they will decide on the issue of compliance with the Constitution of the National Assembly’s decision on the termination of [opposition Prosperous Armenia faction MP] Naira Zohrabyan’s powers as Chair of the [National Assembly] Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs. The ruling faction in the National Assembly had come up with such an initiative and the decision was adopted, but the constitutionality of the issue has yet to be challenged.
