Azerbaijan has stated that it will force Armenia to open a "corridor" in Syunik [Province], at the same time repeatedly stating that the Azerbaijanis will return to [their] "historic territory: Zangezur, Yerevan, etc." Taron Simonyan, an MP of the opposition Bright Armenia faction in the National Assembly, wrote this on Facebook.
"This is nothing but a threat—A THREAT TO THE USE OF FORCE, which is prohibited by Article 2 (the jus cogens principle) of the UN Charter.
If we add to this the Azerbaijani military exercises scheduled for March 15, 16 (the days of the signing of the ill-fated Treaty of Moscow (Kars)), which are an act of demonstration of force—again from the point of view of international law and therefore A THREAT TO THE USE OF FORCE, the picture gets clearer.
And if we pay a little more attention to the events unrolling in the region and around our strategic partner [Russia], the forecasts do not bode well for the near future, given the international crimes committed by the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem a few months ago: aggression, war crimes, terrorism, mercenaries, etc.
By the way, in such cases, the state authorities paying attention to the security of the state petition to the UN Security Council. Even if they have suspicions that a state can veto during the adoption of a possible resolution, in any case they petition in order to raise the issue and later legitimize SELF-DEFENSE by virtue of Article 51 of the same UN Charter," Simonyan added.
