The likelihood of a military conflict between the US and China is not yet high, Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong said this in an interview with the BBC, adding that tensions between the two world superpowers have increased.

According to him, if the two countries continue their tough policies, they may reach a dead end. He noted that China's political course has caused tensions with several countries.

There are considerable uncertainty and anxiety about which way China is going and whether it will be good for them, he noted.

The United States is Singapore's largest investor and also one of its key security partners. China, on the other hand, is the country's largest export market, and its economic growth has brought Singapore a big advantage.

While tensions between the two superpowers began under former US President Donald Trump, there is no sign that they will ease under Joe Biden.

However, Li Hsien Loong hopes that Biden is someone who believes in multilateralism and international trade.

Some analysts estimate that China's economy will overtake the US economy by 2028, five years earlier than predicted.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said Singapore cannot afford to choose a side, noting that this is a problem for many countries.
