YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd newspaper of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: Independent MP Taguhi Tovmasyan published a noteworthy document yesterday about a disgraceful episode of cooperation between Armenia and Interpol international criminal police, in response to which the RA Prosecutor General's Office issued a clarification at the end of the day.

MP Taguhi Tovmasyan gave her comments on that clarification in a conversation with Zhoghovurd daily.

"(…) the prosecutor's office 'clarifies' to us that the International Criminal Police Organization, Interpol, is not an accountable body in the field of criminal justice. According to the prosecutor's office, Interpol does not study the circumstances of the case, factual data, not only does not have the authority to make assessments on the grounds or legality of the accusation, but also does not check the details.

In this case, a question arises as to how Interpol decides, on what basis, if not factual data. I clarify especially for the prosecutor's office and our general public that Article 3 of the Interpol charter stipulates: "The organization is strictly prohibited from engaging in any political, military, religious or racial intervention or action."

According to Article 36 of the Interpol charter, the Commission for the Control of [Interpol] files is responsible for ensuring that the circulation of files relating to an individual by the organization complies with the requirements of Article 3 of the charter.

And when we get acquainted with Article 34 of that professional commission, it clearly states that before putting any personal data into circulation, the commission is obliged to ensure that the circulation of such data complies with the requirements of Article 3 of the Interpol charter.

And Section 3 of Article 34 of the commission's charter clearly states that in order for the commission to be able to ensure that the circulation of personal data through the Interpol channels does not violate Article 3 of the Convention, all relevant elements must be examined, and the nature of the crime must be examined first; that is, the accusation made and the facts underlying it," the independent MP explained.
