Former Turkish President Abdullah Gul criticized the decision to close Peoples' Democracy Party and deprive Omer Faruk Gergerlioglu of parliamentary immunity, Karar reported.

The prosecutor's office appealed to the Turkish Constitutional Court to close the party, citing the party's alleged links with the Kurdistan Workers' Party.

According to the ex-president, this step will place a burden on the Turkish government, which recently promised to carry out civil reforms.

Previous experience has shown that the closure of parties and the revocation of immunity have contributed to the development of terrorist organizations. According to Gul, terrorism can only be fought by strengthening democracy and restoring human rights.
