French President Emmanuel Macron will push for a new approach to Lebanon in the coming weeks, as the country's main actors have not made progress in resolving the economic and political crisis over the past seven months, Reuters reported.

Paris has spearheaded an international effort to save the former French protectorate from its worst crisis since the 1975-1990 civil war, but has so far failed to convince local politicians to accept the reform plan and form a new government to receive international assistance.

The protests intensified after the Lebanese currency hit a new low, fueling public discontent with Lebanon's financial collapse.

The time for verification of responsibility is coming to an end, and in the coming weeks it will be necessary to very clearly change the approach and methods, since we cannot leave the Lebanese people in this situation, Macron noted.
