YEREVAN. – Mher Margaryan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, on Tuesday addressed the UN Security Council Open Debate on “peace and security through preventive diplomacy,” the Armenian foreign ministry informed.

In his speech, Margaryan drew the attention of the Security Council to the recent armed attacks by Azerbaijan on Armenia's territorial integrity, noting that they violate the UN Charter, international law, and the provisions of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020.

It was stressed that Azerbaijan's aggressive actions endanger the efforts of the international community to defuse the situation, and seriously undermine the prospects for peace in the region.

Also, the permanent representative of Armenia to the UN stressed the need for urgent and effective steps by international actors to prevent further escalation of the situation, and to ensure the unconditional and complete withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the territory of Armenia.
