WASHINGTON. - On the 37th anniversary of Turkey’s invasion in Cyprus, a key Congressional panel will vote on the amendment aiming to press Turkey to end its repression of its Christian minorities and call to the return of Christian churches to their rightful owners, the Armenian Weekly informs.

According to the sources on Capitol Hill, members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee will amend the State Department Authorization bill in accordance with Resolution 306—the “Return of Churches”. It was initiated by representatives Ed Royce and Howard Berman. Both are members of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Armenian Americans across the U.S. are continuing to make thousands of phone calls to their Representatives in support of the measure. Armenian American clergy on Wednesday are expected to attend the House panel proceeding.

The measure has also received broad support from the Greek and Assyrian communities in the U.S.
