An Israeli protest column, inspired by demonstrations in Canada against coronavirus restrictions, drove along the main highway connecting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Reuters reports.

Dozens of cars headed for the parliament building in Jerusalem. Other protesters stood at highway intersections as the so-called "freedom convoy" passed by, some of the vehicles flying Israeli and Canadian flags.

Outside the parliament building, protesters blew horns and beat drums and called for the lifting of pandemic-related restrictions. 

In recent weeks, Israel has lifted the requirement to show proof of vaccination in restaurants, cinemas, gyms and hotels.

But masks are still required in public spaces, including schools, shops and healthcare facilities.

Freedom Convoy'protests have begun in Canada In Ottawa, they were led by truckers who opposed vaccinations or quarantines for cross-border drivers. Similar protests were held last weekend in France.
