A tragic road accident took place Monday in Syunik Province of Armenia, shamshyan.com reports.

At around 6pm, a van went off road on the Vardavank-Kapan motorway under unknown circumstances and ended up in a ravine after rolling several times.

The driver, Syunik resident Varuzhan B., 39, died on the spot. The passenger, Syunik resident Harutyun G., 36, sustained major injuries and was taken to the Kapan city medical center, where he died without regaining consciousness.

Criminal proceedings have been launched into this road accident.

The deceased were serving in a military unit as contract servicemen.
