MOSCOW. - Russian Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko has become CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) Interparliamentary Assembly Chair. Matviyenko was elected unanimously as a result of secret ballot.

She thanked for the confidence given to her, for becoming deserving of such honor, and promised to devote all efforts in order to resolve the existing problems, RIA Novosti Russian news agency informed.   

Valentina Matviyenko already proposed to adopt, during the Assembly’s fall session, a special document which will be devoted to 20th anniversary of CIS—in which Armenia likewise is a member country—and which will present the organization’s past activities and future plans.
