The visit of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton to the region proves the Union wants to play more important role in resolution of so-called frozen conflicts in the region, said European Parliament member Kristian Vigenin.

“The Karabakh conflict has been vexing the atmosphere for years. There is tiny progress. It seems to me a stronger EU commitment could change this,” he told Bulgarian Focus agency, APA reports.

Kristian Vigenin visited Armenia last week to discuss a number of issues, including the Karabakh peace process. The MP said he would inform Catherine Ashton of his visit’s results ahead of her trip to the South Caucasus.

Catherine Ashton’s visit is scheduled for November 15-17. She will first visit Azerbaijan, then Georgia and Armenia.
