Eli Feldstein, a former spokesman and aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and one of the main suspects in the Prime Minister's Office leak case, has been placed in prison under surveillance to prevent suicide, the Times of Israel reported, citing official prison sources.

“The wardens discovered something in the cell of one of the inmates held in prison in the south of the country that required, in accordance with the warden's instructions, that he be immediately transferred to a cell where he could be monitored to prevent suicide,” the prison service said in a statement without naming the inmate.

Israeli media, however, wrote that the man in question was Feldstein.

It was initially reported that a noose was found in his cell, but it was later clarified that Feldstein had apparently removed a rubber frame from his cell window, raising fears that he might use it to harm himself.

Yesterday, prosecutors told the court that they intend to prosecute Feldstein and another key suspect in the case.

Feldstein and the other defendant, whose name was not disclosed, are suspected of passing classified information with the intent to harm the state, collecting classified material with the intent to harm the state, and conspiracy to commit a felony, among other charges.

He is accused of passing a secret document to the German newspaper Bild in order to change public opinion about the fate of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and to hint that protests demanding the release of the hostages were playing into Hamas' hands.
