Generic drug manufacturers have warned that the US tariffs on pharmaceuticals could lead to shortages of medical drugs, including cancer drugs.

Also, medical drug shortages in the US had already reached record levels in the first quarter of 2024, and the country's healthcare system is suffering from a shortage of low-cost medical drugs.

According to the Financial Times, a significant part of the medical drugs imported into the US are manufactured in India, and active ingredients are often purchased from China.

The new US tariffs have not yet affected pharmaceutical products, but Trump has warned that he plans to extend them to the pharmaceutical industry also, recalled the Financial Times.
