India does not intend to escalate the conflict with Pakistan, but it will give a tough response if Islamabad launches a military attack, Indian foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said.

India's objective is not to escalate the situation in relations with Pakistan. However, if there is a military attack on India, there should be no doubt that there will be a very tough response, Jaishankar said at the opening of the Indo-Iran Joint Commission  meeting in New Delhi.

Relations between India and Pakistan got strained after the April 22 terror attack in the popular tourist town of Pahalgam in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 25 Indians and one Nepali.
