The election campaign has officially started in South Korea ahead of the presidential election on June 3. Registration of candidates for the post of head of state ended on May 11.

According to the National Election Commission of South Korea, seven people are running for president. They include former chairman of the Toburo Democratic Party Lee Jae-myung, candidate of the ruling  People Power Party Kim Moon-soo, leader of the Reform Party Lee Joon-seok, leader of the Democratic Labor Party Kwon Young-guk, Ku Joo-wan of the Freedom and Unification Party, as well as two independents: Hwang Kyo-ahn and Son Jin-ho.

The fiercest competition is expected be between the candidate of the leading opposition party, Lee Jae-myung, and the representative of the conservative camp, Kim Moon-soo.

On April 4, the South Korean constitutional court confirmed the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol due to martial law incidents. The third court hearing of the riot case against him will be held on Tuesday.
