Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid within the framework of his working visit to France, the Armenian president’s office informs.

They discussed the agenda of Armenia-Iraq bilateral relations. Both sides stressed the need to deepen the dynamic development of the Armenian-Iraqi relations and the need to deepen political dialogue and practical cooperation.

The interlocutors touched also upon regional developments, peace and stability, and emphasized the importance of developing effective partnership and mutual trust.

The parties stressed the importance of expanding bilateral economic cooperation, especially in trade, investment, and other domains of mutual interest. In this context, the need to launch direct flights between Yerevan and Baghdad was stressed as an important tool for promoting political, economic, and tourism ties.

The presidents reflected also on the chances of intensifying the work of intergovernmental commissions—and aimed at deepening sectoral cooperation and forming the practical grounds for the implementation of new initiatives.

The interlocutors discussed as well the organizational and substantive matters of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which will be hosted by Armenia in 2026, and the holding of such events in resolving global issues.
