Washington is demanding a quick response from the president of Ukraine to the peace plan of US President Donald Trump administration, aiming to reach a ceasefire agreement with Russia by December 25—Christmas, Financial Times (FT) reports.

According to officials familiar with the respective talks, Trump’s envoys have given Volodymyr Zelenskyy a few days to respond to the proposed peace agreement, which requires Ukraine to accept territorial losses in exchange for the uncertain security guarantees by the US.

Zelenskyy told his European counterparts that during a two-hour phone call on Saturday, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the US president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner had pressured him to make a quick decision.

An FT source familiar with the respective timeline proposed to Kyiv said that Trump hopes to reach an agreement by Christmas.

According to officials, Zelenskyy told the American envoys that he needs time to consult with European allies before responding to Washington’s proposal.

One official stated that Ukraine is caught between territorial demands it cannot accept and US demands it cannot reject.
