An emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. local time on Saturday, journalists were told at Permanent Mission of Russia to the United Nations, TASSreports.

“In connection with the unprovoked act of armed aggression by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Russian Federation and China have requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council. An emergency session amid the escalating situation in the Middle East is also being convened by France, Bahrain and Colombia,” the diplomatic mission said in a statement.

“The reckless actions of Washington and West Jerusalem against a sovereign UN member state constitute a direct violation of the fundamental principles and norms of international law. Such dangerous adventures are aimed at undermining peace, stability and security throughout the Middle East region. We expect appropriate objective assessments from the leadership of the UN Secretariat. During the Security Council meeting, we will demand that the United States and Israel immediately cease their unlawful and escalatory actions and return to a political and diplomatic path. Russia is ready to provide all necessary assistance in this process,” the statement said.
