Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that Turkey is making "intensive" diplomatic efforts to end the conflict engulfing the Middle East, triggered by Israeli-American strikes on Iran, AFP reports.

"Attacks on Iran, as well as missile and kamikaze drone attacks from Iran on neighboring Gulf countries, are fueling instability," he said in a televised address. "Through peaceful diplomacy, we are making intensive efforts to resolve problems at the negotiating table," the Turkish president added.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Washington's Syria envoy Tom Barrack, ministry sources said. He also spoke with his British counterpart Yvette Cooper to discuss "the current security situation in the region," assessing "in detail the diplomatic efforts that could be undertaken to end hostilities and establish stability." He also discussed regional developments with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis, and the President of Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region Nechirvan Barzani.
