Five people were sentenced to life in prison in Bahrain on Tuesday. They are accused of plotting "terrorist and hostile acts" in collaboration with Iran, AFP reports.

The state prosecutor announced that the Supreme Criminal Court convicted two Afghans and three Bahrainis, while a fourth Bahraini was acquitted. According to the statement, they are accused of monitoring and photographing "vital and important facilities" for Iran.

The indictment confirms that contact with hostile foreign organizations against the Kingdom of Bahrain is considered one of the most serious crimes that harm national security, the statement added.

The state prosecutor is considering appealing the acquittal of the sixth defendant.

On Monday, Bahrain had revoked the citizenship of 69 people for "expressing support for Iranian attacks."
