Iran will build the 60 km long railway on the border with Armenia.

Armenia’s Ambassador to Iran, Artashes Tumanyan, told the aforesaid to Fars News Agency of Iran.

The ambassador reflected on the Armenian-Iranian projects, and noted that construction is still in progress for Armenia’s North-South highway, owing to which Armenia can link the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea.

To the query on what obstructs construction of the Iran-Armenia railway, Ambassador Tumanyan responded: “Billions of dollars in investments are needed for that. Once the funding issue is resolved, the railway will be built.”

The Armenian ambassador also commented on the prospects for Iran-Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) cooperation, and he pointed to Armenia’s respective part.

“Yerevan wants to link Iran and the EEU, whose members likewise are interested in collaborating with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Ambassador Tumanyan specifically noted.
