YEREVAN. – For President—and ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Chairman—Serzh Sargsyan, Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan is the most suitable and likely candidate for Prime Minister from April 2017 to April 2018, according to Zhamanak (Time) newspaper.

“It is for this objective that hard efforts are made toward Vigen Sargsyan, so that the public perception is prepared for such major changes.

“This is why it is decided that Vigen Sargsyan shall head the RPA list [in the parliamentary election, which is slated for April 2]. According to this plan, before the expiry of the term of office of the [incumbent] President in April 2018, the RPA will hold various marches and public events, where they will ‘beg’ that Serzh Sargsyan become the head of the country—become PM.

“And Vigen Sargsyan will resign from [the PM’s] office before April 9, 2018, in his [i.e. Serzh Sargsyan’s] favor and pursuant to the transitional provisions of the Constitution, and once the [serving] President’s term of office expires, Serzh Sargsyan will assume the post of Prime Minister,” wrote Zhamanak.
