Nine provinces of Afghanistan are liberated from militants of Islamic State, President of Afghanistan, Mohammed Ashraf Ghani  said during the seventh ministerial “Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process” in Baku.

He added that efforts in this direction need to be increased, RIA Novosti reports.

The situation in Afghanistan has noticeably worsened in recent months. The radical Taliban movement, which had previously seized a considerable territory in rural areas of the country, launched an offensive attack against large cities. Also the influence of the terrorist group Islamic State has increased on the territory of the country.

“The United States is supporting Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism. This shows that the Taliban has no future, it will be defeated”, Ghani said.

The President of Afghanistan added that the country is implementing all UN documents on combating terrorism.

“This is not just Afghanistan's problem, all states must unite in the fight against terrorism. We have recently prevented the spread of the influence of the ISIS in Afghanistan. Nine provinces have already been liberated from ISIS, so they should increase efforts in this direction. We call on the sides to cooperate in the region”, he said.
