YEREVAN. – The European Union has heavily invested in organizing the parliamentary elections in Armenia, head of the EU delegation, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski said during the presentation of a report on monitoring of the parliamentary elections.

In addition, he said, the EU had active political participation, providing any kind of support in the conduct of elections.

The European official recalled that they have invested more than seven million euros in the organization of these elections. The European Union, represented by a number of member countries, in particular Germany and the United Kingdom, provided 90% of all funding. Świtalski added that the funds were mainly aimed at providing technical support for the elections. In particular, cameras that allow tracking the voting process were provided. In addition, 500 thousand euros was allocated to support the civil monitoring initiative.

As the Ambassador noted, the EU did its utmost to support Armenia in holding parliamentary elections at the highest European level, increasing the pre-election criteria that exist in the country.

At the same time, the head of the EU delegation in Armenia assured that the EU is ready to continue cooperation in this area for the promotion and further development of democratic criteria and electoral processes. The official claimed that the EU does not impose anything and does not pursue any hidden goals, being ready to react constructively to any cooperation initiative.
