STRASBOURG. – We have extensive cooperation with Armenia.

Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland on Wednesday stated the above-said at a briefing with reporters, after his talk with President Serzh Sargsyan of Armenia, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informed from Strasbourg, France.

Jagland stressed that the processes in Armenia are on the right track. The CoE head added that he had a very interesting exchange of views with President Sargsyan, and on numerous matters.

Sargsyan, in turn, recalled that Thursday will mark the 17th anniversary of Armenia’s joining the CoE.

“Armenia in 2018 is totally different than the one in 2001,” he said. “Our country has achieved significant results in the strengthening of democracy, human rights, and rule of law. The valuable cooperation with the Council of Europe for long years has a significant role here.”

In the President’s words, he and the CoE Secretary General recorded that comprehensive reforms have been made in Armenia, especially within the last decade, toward  guaranteeing fundamental freedoms, having a more open and effective governance, and ensuring a dynamic civil society in the country.
