Under the umbrella of Neo-Ottomanism Turkey is trying to convince the world it is the successor of all the civilizations that have ever existed in its territory, Anush Hovhannisyan, a researcher, Department of Turkey, Institute of Oriental Studies, told journalists, commenting on the Turkish authorities` decision on the repair of the Armenian architect Sarkis Lole Gizo`s grave.

According to the expert, Turkey`s policy over the past five or six years has been aimed at proving the world she is a multicultural state, a crossroads of civilizations and religions. It was under this umbrella that a serious of events "Istanbul is capital of civilizations" was organized in Istanbul last year.

"This policy not only brings political dividends to Turkey, but also enables it to restore Armenian cultural and historical monuments for the purpose of developing its tourist industry. The Turkish authorities mean that Armenian historical, cultural and architectural monuments, as well as monuments created by other peoples that lived in the territory of modern-day Turkey, are part of the Ottoman culture," Hovhannisyan said.

The historian Rafik Tadevosyan said that Turkey`s policy toward Armenian monuments is nothing but a political game presented to the international community as a tendency to Armenian-Turkish reconciliation.

Every time Turkey reports the restoration of Armenian monuments or recalls an Armenian architect the Armenian side should remind it of the Armenian Genocide in 1915.
