The death toll from Indonesia’s 7.4-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami disaster on Sulawesi island, on September 28, has neared 1,650, Detik news website reported.

Indonesia’s politics, justice and security minister-coordinator, Wiranto, announced that 1,648 bodies have already been buried, and 563 people are missing.

Earlier, Indonesian authorities had reported about 1,571 dead and more than 2,500 injured. Over 70,000 people had to leave their homes.
