The first official comments regarding the unrest in Tehran were given by Deputy Commander of the Iranian police.

In his interview with IRNA news agency Ahmad Reza Radan confirmed reports on one killed in the rally. One of the affected is in critical condition, another one made a suicide attempt in one of the Tehran streets, he said. According to the Iranian official, unrests were staged by counter-revolutionary elements, agents of U.S., UK and Israel, ITAR-TASS reported.

However, Radan did not specify number of the detained. According to jamejamonline.ir Iranian website, 180 MPs demanded that opposition leaders Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi should be executed.

Iranian opposition held a rally on Monday despite their leaders were under house arrest. Thousands took to the streets of Tehran heading to Azadi Square. They demanded improvement of economic conditions, free elections and resignation of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Police dispersed the protestors using tear gas.
