On April 18, President of the Republic of Armenia Armen Sarkissian signed an executive order to regulate the election for the judge candidate of the Constitutional Court.

The executive order particularly reads as follows:

“Taking as a basis part 1 of Article 139 of the Constitution, as well as part 4 of Article 17 of the Constitutional Law “On the Constitutional Court” and with the purpose of ensuring exercise of the power prescribed by part 1 of Article 166 of the Constitution:

1. To assign the staff of the President of the Republic:

(1) to organize, prior to April 19, 2019, the posting of the announcement about the nomination of a judge candidate of the Constitutional Court, as well as the requirements for judge candidates and the list of documents certifying the requirements by the Constitution and laws on the official website of the President of the Republic of Armenia, setting 3 May (18:00) as the deadline for submitting them to the Staff of the President of the Republic of Armenia prior to

(2) transfer to the President of the Republic the list of contenders having applied for the candidacy of judge of the Constitutional Court and the documents submitted thereby (copies) by May 6, 2019;

(3) to organize, prior to May 15, 2019, personal conversations of the applicants for the position of judge of the Constitutional Court and other potential contenders — recommended by the President of the Republic of Armenia — with the President of the Republic;

(4) to organize, by the assignment of the President of the Republic of Armenia, the meetings of the President of the Republic of Armenia with lawyer-scholars and other prestigious representatives of the legal community for the purpose of receiving opinions on the potential judge candidate of the Constitutional Court.”
