YEREVAN. – It is proposed to provide compensations not only to the families of those who died, but also to those who sustained severe and moderate injuries during the dispersal of the demonstrations in Yerevan, in March 2008.

Vice president of the National Assembly of Armenia, Lena Nazaryan, who is also a member of the majority My Step faction in parliament, on Monday stated about this at the NA session’s debates on the bill with respect to paying compensation to those who were affected by the tragic events that occurred on March 1 and 2 in Yerevan.

But Nazaryan, who is the co-author of this law proposal, did not elaborate on what assistance shall be provided to these people, and noted that the government will clarify this matter.

In her words, this bill was submitted to support and strengthen the solidarity of the Armenian society.

On March 1 and 2, 2008 the then authorities of Armenia used force against the opposition members who were rallying in downtown capital city Yerevan, and against the results of the presidential election on February 19, 2008. Eight demonstrators as well as two servicemen of the internal troops were killed in the clashes.
