Leaders of Armenia’s extra-parliamentary opposition called on their supporters to march towards Liberty Square.

Coordinator of the Armenian National Congress Levon Zurabyan said people’s right to hold a rally in Liberty Square has been ignored since March 2008. Time has come for people to restore their right, he said.

“We do not want clashes. Policemen are also ordinary people, we are confident that all the issues can be solved through peaceful negotiations,” he said.

The opposition march has kicked off, the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reports. Participants will march along Tumanyan street, then Levon Zurabyan will hold talks with the police. He called on the protestors to stay in Mashtots avenue until the talks are over.

At the moment leader of the Heritage party Raffi Hovannisian is on hunger strike in the Liberty Square.
