Former deputy of the faction of the Republican Party of Armenia in the National Assembly, former Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan, who is currently in the Russian Federation, says he will return to Armenia when his training course in Russia draws to an end. This is what Kostanyan told 168.am.

Kostanyan has been involved in the case of the events of March 1, 2008 as an accused-on-trial.

Under the procedure of part 1 of Article 203 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, the Special Investigation Service has suggested that he show up to the body implementing proceedings within 48 hours in order for a charge to be brought up.

“I have agreed with them and have publicly said several times that I will definitely return and have also said why I can’t return now. I have said that I have classes and will return when the course ends,” Gevorg Kostanyan said.

In response to a specifying question about his decision to return, Kostanyan said he will definitely return.

“The problem is that I know that if I return now, I won’t be able to return to Russia, and this is why I will return when I finish classes. Yes, I can imagine that if I come now, my right to leave will be restricted,” the former Prosecutor General concluded.
