Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Avinyan today attended the 3rd Armenian-Georgian Legal Cooperation Forum and gave a speech in which he particularly said the following:

“First, I am glad to welcome my counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Justice Thea Tsulukiani and the members of the Georgian delegation to Yerevan.

As the co-chair of the intergovernmental commission on the Armenian-Georgian economic cooperation, I attach great importance to the development of cooperation between Georgia and Armenia in all directions.

Dear colleagues,

The reforms in the justice sector are pivotal and fundamental for the Government of Armenia. They are viewed as a major precondition for the implementation of reforms in other sectors and in terms of recording results. In this context, having an independent, accountable and corruption-free judiciary is of vital significance for Armenia. The resolute steps taken and the specific programs carried out in this short period allow us to state that our aim to restore confidence in the justice system will definitely succeed.

I would like to state that Georgia and Armenia face almost the same challenges in terms of reforms in the justice sector. I am certain that the mutually beneficial cooperation between Georgia and Armenia in the justice sector provides the opportunity to confront the universal challenges of our days on the path to implementation of reforms, and our cooperation can set an example for cooperation in the other sectors as well.

Dear gathered,

The ongoing and effective development of relations with Georgia is one of Armenia’s foreign policy priorities. The Armenian government is interested in exerting the possible efforts to convey new quality to the cooperation with Georgia. In this context, I highly value the establishment of multifaceted relations between the ministries of justice of our two countries.

I am certain that new directions for cooperation will be outlined during the visit of Mrs. Tsulukiani for the benefit and welfare of our nations and peoples.

I wish us all a fruitful discussion. Thank you for your attention.”
