Alexander Kananyan, a resident of Karvachar, Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic, has started a cautionary hunger strike today demanding an end to the "unleashed" building of hydropower plants that are already threatening to turn the region, particularly in Karvachar, into a desert.

Twenty-four hours before going on the hunger strike, Kananyan issued a special statement, demands for action, and appealed to his compatriots.
