YEREVAN. – The government is going to go for snap [parliamentary] elections in the near future, and I believe a [respective] decision will be announced today or tomorrow. The minister of environment, Romanos Petrosyan, told this to reporters after Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the government of Armenia.

When asked what made them return to this agenda, he responded: "Despite the refusals voiced by the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary opposition to resolve the political crisis in the country through snap elections, in our assessment, the crisis itself was not being resolved.

We should also note that the ‘street struggle’ of the opposition also did not have any considerable importance, and it was not welcomed by our society either.

However, our decision remains in force to resolve this issue by going for snap [parliamentary] elections, in a constitutional way."

And to the question as whether there is a public demand for snap parliamentary elections in Armenia, the minister responded: "The public did not voice the public demand with the mandate and mouth of the opposition. But we see the resolution of the political process solely through the constitutional way and by way of snap [parliamentary] elections."
