A Turkish court ruled to leave human rights activist Osman Kavala in custody on Thursday, NTV reports.

In October, the Ambassadors of the United States, Germany, Denmark, Finland, France, The Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Norway and New Zealand called for the release of Kavala, after which President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan assigned the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to declare the diplomats as persona non grata. Later, the diplomatic missions of the countries declared that they intend to respect the laws and the decisions of the Turkish government, after which the crisis was resolved.

Kavala was detained on October 18, 2017 at Istanbul Airport. On November 1, 2017, the court ruled to detain him for ‘an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order and the incumbent government’. The Turkish authorities believe the human rights activist is an accomplice in the protests that were held in 2013.

In February of this year, an Istanbul court announced a verdict to acquit and release the human rights activist, but later that same day, the Prosecutor General’s Office authorized his detention.
