At least 30 people were killed Thursday in an explosion at a mosque in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif (the capital of the northern Afghan province of Balkh), the Khaama Press agency reported, citing representatives of local medical institutions.

According to doctors, 80 wounded were also admitted to hospitals.

Earlier, referring to doctors, the Afghan TV channel TOLO News reported the death of five people.

According to the Aamaj News agency, the incident occurred near the mosque, but later it was reported that the explosion occurred in the building itself at the moment when the congregation gathered for the afternoon prayer.
