
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed his concern at separate meetings with Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers regarding the latest escalation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and called for strict observance of the ceasefire.
"The Secretary General expressed concern about the latest military escalation in the region and emphasized the need for strict observance of the ceasefire," reads a statement by the Secretary General’s Office after the meeting between Guterres and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, TASS reports.
At the meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, in addition to the call for the ceasefire, the head of the world organization emphasized "UN's support for all mediation efforts to achieve long-term peace in the region."
