France is studying Armenia's defense needs, French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu has said in an interview with Franceinfo radio station.

Commenting on a journalist’s question whether France could intervene militarily to preserve the territorial integrity of Armenia, Lecornu said that President Emmanuel Macron is personally following the situation.

“I have met with the Minister of Defense of Armenia several times. In addition, I consider myself the first minister of defense who had so many contacts with his Armenian counterpart. We have opened a defense mission in Armenia, which did not exist until now and which allows us to conduct daily dialogue with the Armenian army and the Armenian authorities,” said the French minister.

Answering the question about whether there will be military intervention from France in connection with the problems of Armenia, Lecornu emphasized that he does not believe in this and that this question should be answered by the president of France and the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.

“We are studying requests coming from Armenia: that is certainly what we are doing,” he said.
