YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party Chairman Raffi Hovannisian—who is declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election on February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote—does not seek any specific tactical objective. Moreover, he is not after a ministerial position, Caucasus Institute Deputy Director, political analyst Sergey Minasyan said during a press conference on Monday.

“Hovannisian and his supporters wish to make significant changes in Armenia’s domestic politics,” the political scientist maintained.

Minasyan also noted that, unlike the previous election, all the phases, which were directly linked to the election campaign, are left in the past this time, and what we have now is Hovannisian’s track-record of utilizing the considerable resource he received owing to the votes he garnered.

In the analyst’s words, the Heritage leader and his supporters are carrying out one of the forms of political battle, and this form does not envision a boycotting of the political processes.

“Judging from Raffi Hovannisian’s measures, there is an impression that he is cautious of a ‘color revolution.’ Hovannisian has chosen the form of political struggle whereby the voting results are not recognized, but he is not resorting to methods of force,” Sergey Minasyan concluded.
