Today, Dec. 10, Armenian National Congress (ANC) organized a demonstration timed to the International Human Rights Day. The participants started marching from Saryan monument, passed North Avenue, Republic Square and reached Myasnikyan monument, where paid silent tribute to the victims of March 1, 2008 events.

However, passing by the Prosecutor General’s office the skirmish between the demonstrators and policemen occurred. The reason was escorting policemen’ were ordering the marchers to get off the roadway using rude language, which incited people’s resentment.

“It was provoked by police officers, as they made people to march on the right side hindering the traffic,” said one of demonstrators, Astghik Aghekyan to NEWS.am correspondent.

The protest march ended on North Avenue, where ANC coordinator Levon Zurabyan informed of the forthcoming rally in support of Nikol Pashinyan to be held on Jan. 8.

Asked on a number of today’s demonstrators by NEWS.am correspondent, Zurabyan failed to provide a precise number, but stated that they were over several thousand. Incidentally, one of police high ranking officers replied to this question, saying “he lost his voice and is unable to answer.”
