Gazprom intends to purchase as much of Azerbaijan’s gas as it can supply, said Chairman of the company’s Management Committee Alexey Miller at the Jan.11 briefing.

According to him, the peculiarity of the contract between SOCAR and Gazprom signed in 2009 is that the upper margin of the gas buying quantity is not fixed. “We will buy as much of Azerbaijani gas quantity as they can supply, and none of any Gazprom agreements allows to do so, which underlines level of our partnership,” Miller stated.

The SOCAR-Gazprom contract on purchase of Azerbaijani gas was signed in October, 2009 for 4 years (2010-2014). Initially, it stipulated for the supply of minimum 500 million m3 gas, however later SOCAR made a decision on doubling the export and increased it up to 1 billion m3 a year.
