The processes of settling regional conflicts can be effective if regional states act as mediators Hassan Gashgavi, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, stated at a press conference in Baku.

“We believe that the conflict can be resolved through the regional states’ mediation,” Gashgavi said. He rules out non-regional forces’ involvement, as they pursue their own interests.

As regards the Nagorno-Karabakh problem, the Iranian official expressed hope that peace will be established in the region.

Speaking of Iranian FM Manouchehr Mottaki’s recent visit to Yerevan, Gashgavi pointed out that the visit agenda included international problems.

“Armenia is our neighbor. But the following two factors are typical of our relations. First, they cannot be aimed against a third state. Secondly, our bilateral relations can be used for resolving the current problems,” the Iranian official said.

As regards the abolition of visa requirements between Azerbaijan and Iran, Gashgavi pointed out that the decision takes effect as of today for Azerbaijani citizens. He pointed out that the decision does not apply to Azerbaijani journalists.
