YEREVAN. – The British embassy really wants to do everything it can to support Armenia as it is holding elections, Ambassador Jonathan James Aves said.

On Monday he participated in the opening of “Media Center” aiming to concord the efforts of the civil society and the media by bridging NGOs which monitor and observe elections, the civil societies, journalists and mass media.

“Like many of our fellow embassies here, we are following the events around the election process, because we are delighted to support Armenia’s determination to reach out towards European standards and values,” he said.

Ambassador said important part of the election process is Armenia’s ability to meet its international commitments on democracy and human rights,

“These elections will be another important benchmark against which Armenia’s progress will be measured,” Ambassador noted.

Jonathan Aves pointed out media’s role in the election process, adding that this center will be important in terms of building transparency of the elections and facilitating the link between media, civil society and voters.
